Making Mistakes

I chose this image because we can feel bad when we make mistakes and we will make many. Once we do not dwell on them, instead, we learn from each one, acknowledge and let them float away.

I used to feel like I was making mistakes all the time, particularly, at work. It used to feel as though no one else was making mistakes and it was just me. Other people also feel this way but we do not think about this as we are too consumed by our own thoughts. Making mistakes is a part of life. I felt that I kept making the same mistakes instead of learning from them. Often, it was due to them presenting new challenges so it was understandable why I would keep tripping over it yet I did not see it this way. If you already have low self esteem then your mistakes seem worse than they are and each time you do not see the positive side. Of course, it is hard to see the positive when you’ve just made a mistake. Particularly, if it is a seemingly big mistake. Sometimes processing time is needed.

We have to learn to understand that we are all different and we are all humans also. If no one made mistakes then we would not be learning. Often, good outcomes have come from mistakes. We can allow ourselves to make the same mistakes if we are learning more each time so that we do not make it a habit.

I used to find that I felt like I was the clumsy one, that no one would take me seriously or listen because it would be typical of me to mess it up. I believe this way of thinking was preventing me from moving forward and being the person that people would come to. If you already feel negatively then you are bound to keep making that mistake.

With everything so convenient and people looking so flawless on magazines it’s as though making a mistake is unheard of. You have to remember that without making those mistakes you would not have learnt. When I used to get told I had made a few mistakes in some of my old work places I would feel embarrassed and quite self loathing. It is normal to feel bad about having made an error but as long as you can learn and not beat yourself up everytime. It can be used as inspiration to commit to learning.

Making a mistake does not mean you’re an awful person. It means you’re human. We all make mistakes even if it does not seem like it. Do not place your worth on mistakes. Remind yourself that you have value.

  1. You are so right … we focus on the negative emotions associated with making mistakes rather than learning and moving forward. We need to learn to not be so tough on ourselves since we’re more than likely to support others making mistakes
